Silversmithing: The Legacy

Roxanne’s family of silversmiths and entrepreneurs go quite a way back. Her lineage includes first generation silversmiths dating back to the early 1800s when her family crafted silver for early settlers of Boston.

Growing up in Southern California, summer vacations weren’t all pool and beach days. Her family headed east every summer to explore the Smithsonian Museum of American Art archives in Washington, D.C. where her family’s original silver designs lived. Philadelphia, New York, and Boston also hosted more pieces created by the earlier generations of her family.

Those summer trips left Roxanne with a great sense of family pride and a deeper understand behind the beauty of the craft of hand-forged silver.

Both her grandfather, Allan Adler, and her great-grandfather, Porter Blanchard, were silversmiths. Both had studios in Los Angeles: Allan’s on Sunset Boulevard, Porter’s on Magnolia Street (which explains the company’s name.) And both instilled in Roxanne their deep love of silver, its artistry and functionality. She frequently visited their studios,  haunted their halls, until eventually, she too fell in love with the splendor of the craft that is the core of her family’s legacy.
